Perspective drawing

WALT: Construct simple shapes using 2 vanishing points.

This week we began to construct simple cuboids with two vanishing points. The vanishing points give our drawing its 3D look. If we position our shape on the horizon line we can only see two of its faces. If we contract out shape above or below the horizon line we can see 3 faces.

I think the hardest part we found was the cross over of the vertices to the opposite vanishing point.

Below is a short video we made to take you through it step by step.

Assembly

Last week being book week, we had to dress up as one of our favourite book characters, here is a short presentation of what we dressed up as.

In writing we have been learning how to write the perfect paragraph to go along with our explanations and some us have made a stop motion to display our new learning, here is a few examples of work.

 Samaras

This term we have been looking at how rubbish is disposed from a lollipop wrapper to Kate Valley Landfill in Canterbury.

Learnz has taken us on a journey from your rubbish bin to the dumps around the South Island. Here is a short presentation of our new learning.

Certain kinds of rubbish takes a long time to break down. Here is what Harrison and Alvin found out

For the Art Soiree Totara has made Tie-Dye T Shirts we will be screen printing them but so far here is the product.

In art for the last couple of weeks we have been focusing on what makes a good Logo as well as Protest art

Zoe’s learning on protest art.

This week we began to learn how to ride unicycles. Here is a short video on our progress.

Book Character Assembly

For many of us this is our 8th and last Book Character assembly. This is what we dressed up as this year! See if you can spot Ricky Baker

Enlargements

Sophie came up with a very clever solution to TOO MUCH INFORMATION
To finish off this term we decided to do some hands-on maths. Enlargements are very much Geometry and Measurement rather than art. Many things need to happen to be able to create a successful enlargement; Measuring the image, estimating the new grid size, using division to confirm, measuring and ruling accurately & finally spatial awareness-to be able to transfer points on an image to a new (and larger image). I was very impressed  by Room 14s efforts.

Following Instructions

Room 7 invited Room 14 to come up 'for a surprise'. We didn't quite know what it was going to be but we were told we had to wash our hands first!!! When we got there we found that Room 7 had been writing instructions. We had to read and then follow what the instruction said. Yum!!!

Sharing the Learning

Today we went to Room 7 to share our learning across the classrooms. I was very proud of everyone who shared, supported and listened to others in their learning.

As part of science this term we have looked at surface tension, buoyancy and the forces that affect things to either make them float of sink. Here is a link to Finlay's Blog that shows an experiment we did.

Float my Boat

Zak's Reflection on the WATER CYCLE

Oral Language

For Oral language we have recently found out that a certain food chain in New Zealand charges more for their food in poorer areas of NZ and less in richer areas. Here's some of the things we thought about this.

We have begun our first Virtual Field Trip for the year. This week we have found out about about different kind of waka and how traditional navigation was done using a star compass

Float my Boat

The trial. There was no point having a competition if we couldn't get out boats to float...

Float my Boat

Today we began a investigation into designing 'boats' made out of Plasticine. We have already spent some time discussing floating and sinking and what affects the chances of things doing that. Today we all had a piece of Plasticine of the same size and we had to design at boat to get as many staples in it as possible.

Here are some of our designs.
